About Therapy
Every client (and therapist) is unique.
While we’ve had experience helping people of all ages and many different backgrounds, the people who tend to get the most out of our services are parents who are committed to helping their kids adapt to new circumstances (i.e., separation or divorce, blending of families, etc.) with as little negative impact as possible.
We also focus on adolescents and their parents who are struggling with adjusting to the changes in their relationships.
At Family Wellness Group, we’ve seen the countless issues that people experience when dealing with changes to their family structure; in seeing that, we’ve come to learn that though there are commonalities to these situations, no two are the same.
Thus, our work will focus on the details of your specific life situation, finding the subtleties that make your problems and, therefore, their solutions, unique.
Meeting your specific needs…
From the day you come in, we’ll take time to get a full sense of what the problem is – when it started, how consistent it’s been, all the ways it’s had an impact on you, and how it might be impacting others.
We’ll start by making sure you’re safe, and then work to address all aspects of the problem, beginning with the most important to you. We use motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic techniques to change and adapt our approach to meet the unique needs of your case.
From session to session, your therapist will keep an ongoing assessment of your progress in each area and will work with you to find the most efficient, thorough solutions.
Ready to get started?
The very act of finding and calling a therapist is difficult; from admitting that you need help to actively seeking that help, the beginning of this process takes courage.
We are committed to keep from squandering your efforts. We will give your specific case the attention it deserves, as we collect a history to find out the exact nature of your problem – and then identify solutions.
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons, and every person needs to work to find the right “fit” in a therapist.
Give us a call to see if we might be a good fit for you: (703) 732-6426. We will schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to find out together.
About Me
Professional Background
As founder of Family Wellness Group, I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) who graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in psychology in 2005. In 2009, I graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University in Maryland with a Master of Science degree in counseling psychology.
I’ve worked with many types of people with a wide range of issues and concerns during the course of my career, including (but not limited to): children, adolescents, and adults; couples and families; people struggling with addiction and related substance use problems; and co-parents in all stages of separation and divorce situations. I also provide parent coordination services for co-parents, and clinical supervision for other therapists.
My focus as a therapist…
Having worked with such a variety of populations, I’ve seen the importance of family relationships as a common thread.
That commonality is something that has led me to focus on mending those relationships, whether through working with all parties involved, or an individual who’s willing to take a look at their part in a problematic situation.
The key factor in change is the will to do so, and I will work to help you maximize the potential of your desire for that change.
When I’m not doing therapy…
I enjoy spending most of my free time with my family, and that usually means being outdoors – hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking are my favorite things to do when the weather allows.
I also love live music and trying new foods whenever I can.
